The 27th Carr Center Cake Auction ended today.

The phones rang until the very end of the auction and several bids doubled in the last few minutes.

Director of the Carr Center, Kim Hosler said this weekend was very steady.

The 27th Carr Center Cake Auction starts Thursday morning on A-M 1240 radio at 8:15. But the cakes started arriving Wednesday morning at the Colony Square Mall. The cake featured in this story highlights the upcoming Alaskan Cruise hosted by Whiz's Brian Wagner through Holiday Vacations. The cake was baked by Sheena Fortner. The two-day event which will be broadcasted on AM-1240 radio, takes place at The Colony Square Mall April 25-26. People will be able to bid on about 400 entries ranging from small homemade cakes to large professionally made cakes and all of them come with incentives.

Cub Scout Pack 121 had their 24th Annual Father-Son Cake auction at Dresden United Methodist Church. The Cub Scouts auctioned off 30 cakes to residents to raise money for their upcoming summer camp trip this August.

"We usually get a good turnout from the community to come bid on our cakes, everybody has a good time and has a lot of fun," said Cub Scouts Pack 121 Chairman Dam Riley.

The phones were ringing off the hook as eager buyers placed bids on beautifully decorated cakes and even sweeter incentives.

The Carr Center hosted day two of its 26th annual cake auction at the Colony Square Mall in Zanesville.  Co-chair Scott Boyer said more than 200 volunteers have been working hard to make this event possible.

The 25th Carr Center Cake Auction is over and the numbers are in.

This year's two day total comes in at 131,210 dollars. WHIZ's cake sold for 3,000 dollars three times during the last ten minutes of bidding.

"We went from about 115,000 to 130,000 in a heartbeat," said John Hajjar, Executive Director, Carr Center.

The public is invited to view all of the cakes submitted for the 25th Annual Carr Center Cake Auction.

It was a busy Wednesday at the Colony Square Mall as participants carefully brought in each of their cakes and placed it in its assigned area. Volunteer Tammy Porter said she enjoys seeing what each baker creates and how much they will go for.

All the bids are in and the numbers have been tallied.

The 24th Annual Carr Center Cake Auction brought in $138,005.

"We're about $2,000 less than we did last year," said Guest Auctioneer Ron Bucci. "We would have been tickled to death if we did $120,000. This community loves the cake auction. They love the Carr Center and what it does for the community."

The annual Carr Center Cake Auction is well on its way to a successful year.

Nearly half the 410 cakes now have new homes with owners excited about the prizes they've won.

"Everything's going fine," said Carr Center Executive Director Anna Oertel. "We're about on track to where we were this time last year. The energy is fabulous. People are calling in all the time. We've even got more people bringing out cakes today. So things are going well."

Area residents were able to get their first peek at the sweet treats up for grabs at the Carr Center Cake Auction.

Tonight's crowd got the chance to vote for their favorite out of 415 cakes.

"They get bigger, more detailed, more elaborate," said Karen Maniaci. "There is just so much detail in them. It's just hours and hours of work I'm sure."
