The Maple Ave. Walmart's Relay for Life team is getting an early start on raising money for the American Cancer Society.

West Muskingum 7th and 8th grade students are becoming "Blanketeers" by donating quilts they are making in their Cultural Arts class to a nationwide non-profit organization called, Project Linus. The mission of Project Linus is to give kids a security blanket in hopes of providing them a sense of security and comfort to children who are seriously ill or traumatized.

A local woman, who lost her life to colon cancer, is still helping others with their battles.

The ninth annual Becky Ziegler Memorial Jam was held in Zanesville Saturday afternoon at The Barn. Tami Swope, a close friend of Ziegler's and coordinator of the event, says Ziegler never looked at herself as a cancer patient.

"In between her treatments, she would still make it to band practice. It really picked her up and gave her new purpose in life," says Swope.

It's Anita Wright's first time taking part in Relay for Life, and she was one of many who kicked off the event by walking the initial survivor lap at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.

Wright is an 18 month survivor of breast cancer.

Residents were walking in circles Saturday morning for a good cause.

Cancer touches the life of almost everyone, so Saturday cancer survivors and supporters walked the track at the Franklin Local Track Complex to raise money for a cure. The day started off with a lap for survivors.

Kim Schuster has been battling cancer for more than a year, and she just received some great news. The doctors believe she is cancer free.

Schuster just had surgery this past week.

"They removed all the jaw bone and the lymph nodes here. She is supposedly cancer-free. Then they're going to take a piece of bone from the leg and reconstruct the jaw, " says benefit coordinator, Dave Johnson.

One local woman is holding an event to help benefit her friend and others throughout the community who are battling cancer.

Susie's Favorite's Owner, Susie Dodson, says her friend was diagnosed with breast cancer back in January.

A community is rallying together for one woman's time of need.

People gathered in Chandlersville for a benefit dinner to support Kandi VanFossen, who was diagnosed with cancer back in July.
