The 25th Carr Center Cake Auction is over and the numbers are in.

This year's two day total comes in at 131,210 dollars. WHIZ's cake sold for 3,000 dollars three times during the last ten minutes of bidding.

"We went from about 115,000 to 130,000 in a heartbeat," said John Hajjar, Executive Director, Carr Center.

In the midst of the Carr Center Cake Auction one high school student benefits from the work they do.

Maysville High School Senior Sean Bingham is attending the University of Findlay this fall to study pharmacy and play in the marching band. But, on top of all the studying and music work he'll also continue to deal with a disease known as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

When expectant parents near their due date it's important they have everything ready to go for their baby, including the family car.

Getting your vehicle ready for a newborn starts with making sure you have an infant car seat that's not recalled or expired.

A local non-profit organization prepares to say goodbye to their leader of five years.

Anna Oertel has been director of the Alfred S. Carr Center since January of 2006. Upon accepting a position with the Sandusky Area County Community Foundation, she will spend two more weeks at the Carr Center. Oertel tells us how the center has impacted her.

Youth services at the Carr Center are receiving a few thousand dollars in funding.

It's funding staff say is essential, especially with the increased need for the services they provide to the community.

"There's a lot of people who wouldn't be served otherwise if we didn't. There are a lot of people who benefit from those programs in a lot of different ways, " says Executive Director, Anna Oertel.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross will be receiving some much-needed funding from two different events this week.

Terra Cotta Vineyards, in New Concord, is holding a Ladies Evening at the Vineyard this Thursday from six to eight p.m. All proceeds will go directly to the Red Cross.

All the bids are in and the numbers have been tallied.

The 24th Annual Carr Center Cake Auction brought in $138,005.

"We're about $2,000 less than we did last year," said Guest Auctioneer Ron Bucci. "We would have been tickled to death if we did $120,000. This community loves the cake auction. They love the Carr Center and what it does for the community."

The annual Carr Center Cake Auction is well on its way to a successful year.

Nearly half the 410 cakes now have new homes with owners excited about the prizes they've won.

"Everything's going fine," said Carr Center Executive Director Anna Oertel. "We're about on track to where we were this time last year. The energy is fabulous. People are calling in all the time. We've even got more people bringing out cakes today. So things are going well."

Area residents were able to get their first peek at the sweet treats up for grabs at the Carr Center Cake Auction.

Tonight's crowd got the chance to vote for their favorite out of 415 cakes.

"They get bigger, more detailed, more elaborate," said Karen Maniaci. "There is just so much detail in them. It's just hours and hours of work I'm sure."
