The memories of late August 2012 haunt Mark Bretz.

That day he was an ordinary man dropping a steer off to butcher in Adamsville and on the way home he became what many call a hero. Bretz found 29-year-old Celeste Fronsman burned and beaten in the roadway.

On Wednesday, Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Judge Kelly Cottrill sentenced 22-year-old Katrina Culberson to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The sentencing phase for convicted murderer Lafonse Dixon begins Tuesday morning. In testimony Dixon's two younger brothers took the stand to plead for his life. They told the court he was a good father to his kids and kept them off the streets and out of trouble. After hours of deliberation, a jury found LaFonse Dixon guilty on all charges in the death of Celeste Fronsman.

With no family present in the courtroom, Dixon stood unfazed and unemotional as clerk of courts Todd Bickle read off the charges and verdicts to the court just before 10 a.m. on Thursday. The jury of 5 men and 7 women deliberated for over 5 hours on Wednesday after the prosecution and defense gave strong closing arguments. The jurors returned Thursday morning at 9 a.m....

After deliberating much of Wednesday afternoon and into the night, the jury in the Lafonse Dixon murder trial reached a verdict Thursday morning. 

Just after 10 a.m. the jury declared Dixon guilty on charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping and aggravated arson in the 2012 death of 29-year-old Celeste Fronsman. 

Dixon faces the death penalty in the case. The sentencing phase starts Tuesday.

Jury deliberations are underway in the murder trial of Lafonse Dixon.

Earlier in the day,  Muskingum County Assistant Prosecutor Ron Welch spent an hour and a half summing up the case against Dixon. He showed the jury a picture of Celeste Fronsman and asked them to close their eyes and took them through the events of August 26, 2012.

After calling only two witnesses to the stand, the defense in the LaFonse Dixon aggravated murder trial rested its case in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday.

The prosecution rested its case just after 10:30 a.m. The defense then brought in an EMT who arrived on scene and treated Celeste Fronsman the day she was found burned alive in Muskingum County. After six days of testimony from multiple forensic experts, and two women involved in the case the state has rested.

Just after 10:30 Tuesday morning the prosecution turned the murder trial of Lafonse Dixon over to the defense.

Tuesday morning the defense brought forward one witness, an EMT that arrived and treated Celeste Fronsman at the scene. The EMT testified that she only heard Fronsman say the name K.C. Culberson.

The man who found the burned body of 29-year-old Celeste Fronsman last year took the stand on Monday in the trial of LaFonse Dixon.
