Last month, the Center for Seniors served just over 600 meals, up 43% from last year. With such a large increase, they need donations from the community to keep the pantry open.

Tables at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors were filled with people supporting Christ's Table, Eastside Community Ministry, Salvation Army, Fellowship of Christ, and the Senior Center, for the 16th annual Souper Bowl.

The Center for Seniors held an art show May 21st featuring work by members, most of whom were unaware of their artistic talent.

Volunteers lead the art group once a week through a variety of mediums such as oils, acrylics and water colors. This is the third year for the public art show.

With budgets tight for everyone some local groups are looking for assistance from Muskingum County to help finance their projects.

Among them, the new Ohio University-Zanesville Rec Center. Commissioner Jerry Lavy says the Rec Center board has asked the commissioners to help finance around five million dollars for the new facility. Lavy says that is just not a viable move for the county, especially when money is tight.

The Muskingum County Center for Seniors plans to feed about 600 people through a program its calling, "Our Meals, Your Wheels."

Muskingum County seniors will have the opportunity to get help staying warm this winter.

The Muskingum County Center for Seniors is offering help to older folks in the area to fill out applications for the heating assistance program, or HEAP.

Supportive Services Director Debra Smith said the income requirement has gone up this year, allowing more people to use the program. She said it is now 200-percent of the poverty level.
