It's that time of year again, as real estate taxes are due.

That includes all Muskingum County real estate taxes and mobile home taxes. County Treasurer, Chris Hamill talked to us about the proper steps to pay them.

11-year-old Arrested for Bomb Threat

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, OHIO (WHIZ) - According to the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office an 11-year-old boy was arrested and charges are pending after he made a bomb threat Tuesday. Sheriff Matt Lutz said the student in this case will probably be charged as a minor, but could face felony charges of inducing panic.

Muskingum County now has a new treasurer.

The Muskingum County Republican Party has appointed Chris Hamill to the position. She was chosen last night out of 6 others. Hamill said she feels that she can bring many qualities to the table.

Polling closes for this year's primary election Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. We sought out people voting in the election. 

There were only a handful of things to vote on in Muskingum County, and Director of the board of elections, Chris Hamill, said that's one reason she expected a low turnout. As of late afternoon Tuesday, she did not think voting would hit 13 percent. But one voter said everyone should get out and vote.

Muskingum County Board of Election members met this week to certify candidates and issues that will be placed on the May 5th ballot.

Of the 20 candidates to be placed on the ballot, 19 were certified. One council at large member was not and was notified by mail.

If you are interested in running in the may primary, the deadline to file is fast approaching.

You need to have all of your petitions filed by this Wednesday the 4th at 4PM. We spoke to Chris Hamill, Director of the Muskingum County Board of Elections who told us what you'll need.

"If they decide to run for an office, one of the city offices, then they'll need to come in and pick up a petition, have that petition circulated and then bring it back to our office."

The May 5 primary may seem like a long time from now, but filing season is on-going right now.

The filing deadline for elected officials who plan to be on the ballot for the May 5th primary election is rapidly approaching.

Director of Muskingum County Board of Elections, Chris Hamill says the filing deadline is February 4th, at 4:00 p.m.
