The Salvation Army is in desperate need of help from the community.

They operate primarily on grant money and from the support of the public, and every Christmas they provide presents for thousands of children and food for over 600 families. But this year, their stock of gifts and food is running low. Major Diane Campbell is asking the community to support the Salvation Army this Christmas by helping local families in need.

There are some children and teenagers in Muskingum County that won't open anything this Christmas, but you can help change that.

A local organization called Adopt-A-Child has been working hard since October to find donors willing to purchase Christmas gifts for children involved with Muskingum County's Children Services. The Salvation Army in Zanesville is changing the way it hands out its Christmas food and toy baskets. This year instead of one day, it will happen on two separate days.

The food-only distribution will take place Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon. Then, on Friday, the toy, clothes and food distribution will happen from 9 a.m. until 4p.m.

"They will be able to grab their food basket on Thursday and be able to go ahead and go and they won't have to wait...
