Mayor Tilton began his Monday night State of the City speech by talking about the vast accomplishments in the City of Zanesville this past year.

The Crime and Violence Committee met at City Hall this afternoon to discuss what is being done to make the Zanesville community more safe.

Public Safety Director Fred Buck and Chief of Police Kenneth Miller addressed questions from the committee on the status of shooting and drug investigations. Chief Miller also informed the committee on updates to police equipment and computers.

The City of Zanesville in partnership with Walmart picked six winners for their annual Zanesville Art Contest on Thursday.

Zanesville's Mayor, Jeff Tilton says that Walmart provides the city with $500 to purchase prizes for the art contest winners. The award recipients range in grade levels from 1st to 6th grade. Mayor Tilton says he was impressed with the hundreds of drawings he saw and it was tough to pick his favorites.

The Zanesville Police Department has qualified for the 2014 High Visibility Enforcement Overtime Grant from the state. If awarded, the police department would be able to use the funds for overtime on holiday's and during dangerous traffic time periods throughout the year. The police department is expected to hear about the status of the grant by September.

Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton signed a proclamation in honor of the Barbershop Harmony Society's 75th year Thursday afternoon at City Hall. Members of the Zanesville chapter were at the signing and even harmonized for the Mayor.
