Back to school can be an exciting time for many children and their families...but it can also be very expensive.

The Salvation Army is stepping up to help with back to school clothes again this year.  They're hosting a school clothing giveaway at their location on Putnam Avenue.  They served over 120 families at the event last year, and they're prepared to serve even more this time around.

It's not everyday you get to shop with a cop, but on Monday, that's exactly what 40 area students from Muskingum, Morgan and Coshocton counties did.

Every year the Fraternal Order of Police Associates Lodge gives kids and teens a Christmas they may not otherwise get. They give each student over $100 to spend, team them up with law enforcement officers and send them shopping at Walmart to get whatever they want.

Muskingum County families lined up at The Salvation Army to get their children new outfits for the new school year.

"Families can come in and get school clothing for their children to go back to school," said Mindy McCoy, Office Coordinator for The Salvation Army. "We actually have clothing from infants all the way to high school. And if college students came in, we'd be happy to service them as well."

More than 1,000 area kids are expected to walk through the Salvation Army's doors in Zanesville this Thursday and Friday.

The organization is holding its annual school clothing giveaway for those in kindergarten through high school. Tables are lined with thousands of items packed on top of each other, and the staff say thanks to generous donations from the community, each child will get to pick out five outfits.
