SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones has announced he will skip his senior season and declare for the NFL draft.

Jones told reporters his decision Wednesday as the seventh-ranked Buckeyes prepare to play No. 8 Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl on Friday.

Jones was Ohio State's third-string quarterback last season before bursting onto the scene, leading the Buckeyes to a national title after injuries to Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett.

Ezekiel Elliot rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and the Buckeyes amassed 511 yards of total offense in a 38-12 victory over Western Michigan. Ohio State opens Big Ten play next Saturday at Indiana.

Former Tri-Valley Dawg Austin Jones recorded 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery as Otterbein defeated Muskingum, 32-20, at McConagha Stadium to improve to 4-1 in the OAC. 

In Athens, the Bobcats improved to 4-4 on the season by defeating Akron, 23-20, thanks to a late field goal by Josiah Yazdani. The 'Cats will take on Western Michigan next weekend.

Ohio took care of FCS foe Eastern Illinois, 34-19, while Muskingum downed previously unbeaten Capital, 36-20, for its first win of the season.

The Muskies were down, 13-10, before storming back to the tune of three unanswered scores to go up, 30-13.

Backup Bobcat quarterback J.D. Sprague--filling in for an injured Derrius Vick--led the 'Cats to their third win on the year.

 J.T. Barrett tied Kenny Guiton's program record with six touchdown passes as Ohio State bounced back from its week two defeat to Virginia Tech by crushing Kent State, 66-0. Rod Smith, Michael Thomas and Curtis Samuel each scored a pair of touchdowns. The Bucks will be back in action Sept. 27 at home against Cincinnati.
