The 49th Annual Crooksville-Roseville Pottery Festival began Thursday.

The event began at the Ohio Ceramic Museum with a plate breaking ceremony at noon today and was followed by the grounds opening at Crooksville Village Park. Rhonda Tolliver Abele says the event has a lot to offer visitors. Food, music, a parade, a pie baking contest and a fishing contest, are just a few of the things people can enjoy. The opening celebration started off with the pledge of allegiance and then the always anticipated plate breaking and introduction of the 2013 Pottery Queen.

"We're celebrating the heritage of the pottery and the pottery industry and the folks here in the pottery valley I like to call it. This is where it all began actually, in this region," said Ken Papageorge, president of the museum's board of directors.

For anyone who missed out on the Pottery Reunion last week in Zanesville, there's another chance to see more pottery this weekend.
