Family and friends are paying their last respects to a longtime Zanesville School official.

Over 1,500 people attended the calling hours held for Darrell Lear at the Snouffer Funeral Home in Zanesville Tuesday evening.

After battling cancer for several months, Lear passed away at 63-years-old on January 1st at the Genesis Hospice Morrison House.

Darrell Lear was a man that believed in Zanesville City Schools.

The superintendent of the school district said Tuesday that Lear was the type of man that would work 12-14 hours a day and even weekends if needed.

Now, the district he loved so much is planning to honor his efforts in the form of a memorial bench and tree.

One local road will soon be easier to travel on during school rush hour.

Crews at the new Zanesville High School are working to get the parking lot finished before Thanksgiving. Construction Liaison Darrell Lear said when it's finished it should alleviate some of the traffic on Blue Avenue at the start and end of the school day.

It's eye candy from the outside. But this evening I got a chance to take an exclusive behind the scenes look into the new Zanesville High School.

Desks are empty now and construction still ongoing but in three short weeks these empty halls will be full.

Soon you'll be able to see a new high school off of Blue Avenue.

Within the next couple of weeks the old Zanesville High School will be completely knocked down.

"It'll be down probably by the third week of August. Now it wont be hauled away by then, but hopefully they have it all on the ground by then," Darell Lear said.

This is the last weekend for Zanesville High School.

Starting Monday they will start tearing down the music and gym wing of the school. Zanesville City Schools' Darrell Lear says some will be sad to see it go.

"Some of them are going to be sad because they are going to see a building coming down thats been here all their lives if they live in Zanesville and have went to school there as well as myself," Lear said.
