One local shooting range is beginning to see a increase of shooters as hunters prepare for deer hunting season.

There was a sharp aroma of cordite in the air at the Blue Rock Rifle Range early this morning as hunters await for their turn on the shooting line.
Deer gun season begins Monday, November 30th and although today was calm; Sunday the range is expecting to be packed with eager hunters.

Newark Police said they've concluded their investigation into a subject that entered a local gas station with blood on his arms, clothing, legs and shoes.

Authorities said the subject entered the Circle K on West Church Street around 11:14a.m. Monday, when the clerk asked about the blood he made the comment, "You should see the guy in the back of the truck."

Local deer hunters are going to see some changes this upcoming deer season beginning in September.

For Muskingum county the bag limit has changed. Last year it was one buck and three does. This year it's changed to one buck and two does.

"ODNR has always tried to maintain the deer population according to past records and check in on deer and stuff like that. They're happy with what they're seeing right now," said Kathy McCann Dillon Falls Store Owner.

Dale Phillips, owner of Phillips Meat Processing in Zanesville, says deer gun week is a busy week for his family-owned and operated business. Instead of their normal 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, Phillips Meats is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Sunday to meet the needs of hunters.

Hunting season is in full swing in Muskingum County and experts are sharing their knowledge.

Hunting season starts Saturday and that means drivers need to pay close attention to the roadways for deer.

AAA Spokeswoman Kimberly Schwind said there were about 21,000 collisions with deer in Ohio in 2012 alone, with 5,000 of those accidents happening in November. And there are three main reasons for the increase.

Archery Season officially starts this Saturday in Ohio. But this year, the deer limit has changed. Kathy McCann, owner of the Dillon Falls Store says this year, hunters can kill one buck and just three does in Muskingum County. On October 12, the Antlerless Deer Muzzleloader Season starts.

State Officials find no trace of Chronic Wasting Disease in Ohio's Deer population.

In a press release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources it states that 519 samples were taken from deer in 2012. For the 11th year in a row all the samples returned negative for CWD.

The State Highway Patrol investigates a minor accident on Northpointe Drive.

Trooper Lanning said that 20-year-old Elizabeth Garrett was traveling southbound on Northpointe at McGlade School Road around 1:50a.m., Monday morning, when she struck a deer in the roadway.

She then drove off the right side off road and her vehicle overturned onto its top.

She was transported to Genesis Good Samaritan by Dresden EMS. An infant in the vehicle was also transported.
