The Muskingum County Commissioner's are deciding on whether or not an extra $10 fee should be added onto license plates.

Wednesday evening the County Commissioners invited the public to an informational forum to educate them about the possibility of raising license plate fees.

According to Muskingum County Engineer, Doug Davis' presentation Wednesday evening, there are 415 bridges in the county. 36% of these bridges are considered functionally obsolete, meaning they are aged and do not meet today's standards and 18% are structurally deficient, meaning the bridge is weakening and prone to flooding.

Muskingum County's Engineer met with commissioners to discuss ways to pay for roadwork within the county.

Through Ohio Public Works county engineer Doug Davis said they'll apply for grants to take care of some paving projects. Davis also wants the commissioners approval to apply for a zero percent interest loan for $500,000. The money would be used to buy materials to start work on area bridges.

While the Muskingum County Commissioners and Engineer were able to work out funding for Grant Cliff Bridge the issue arises as to how to pay for project in the future.

Muskingum County can breath a sigh of relief when it comes to funding a local bridge project.

The county first believed that they would have to pay over $900,000 out of pocket to replace the Grant Cliff Bridge.

In a meeting Monday, with the Ohio Department of Transportation an agreement was reached where the county will pay up to $600,000 for the project.

Some county roads may receive makeovers by summer time...

Muskingum County and the Ohio Department of Transportation continue to work on Northpointe Drive.

During Wednesday's Transportation Improvement District meeting the two sides traded information about the cost of the project. Because the work on Northpointe ran over the time frame set by the Federal government at least $75,000 must be paid by local funds. Final numbers for the project weren't available from ODOT. The county engineer plans to remedy that problem in the future.
