Fire crews responded to a house fire at 151 south 7th St. in downtown Zanesville.
The Zanesville Fire Department was called out at 12:15 Thursday afternoon. Fire Chief, Eric Waltemire said the two-story home was fully involved in flames when crews had arrived and it took them nearly an hour to get it contained. Water will be shut down to customers in the northwest corner of downtown Zanesville on Wednesday, November 4th.
The Zanesville Water Department will be shutting down water Wednesday evening in a portion of the downtown area. We were told that surrounding areas may experience low water pressure or discolored water during this process. A fence was placed around the building last week in preparation for demolition. Crews arrived early Monday morning to tear the structure down. According to the building and code enforcement office, demolition was ordered in February because an engineer's report classified the building as unsafe due to extensive termite damage.

The Muskingum Valley Garden Society is preparing its downtown planters for the Christmas season.
The group spent yesterday and today removing summer plants from the planters around downtown Zanesville. The pots will later be replaced with Christmas greens. A new salon has opened in town this past May, and they are the featured artist of the month in Friday, July 4th's Art Walk.
