It's been a rough summer for farmers, but help is finally here.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved the Muskingum Morgan Farm Service Agency for two programs.  County Executive Director Bill Huston said funds are available for drought and wind damage.

The concern has been high for farmers worried about losing their crops with the lack of rain.

Zanesville Farmers Market President Mark Barnhart said the dry weather continues to create problems with locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Barnhart said some crops can get by without the rain, and those items were in full stock at today's farmers market.

The drought is taking its toll on area farmers who are struggling to save their crops from the dry weather.

Near Crooksville, Neil Cherry of Cherry Orchard has been busy irrigating many of his crops including blackberries, peaches and apples.

He said the lack of rain is causing some of his apple trees to quit growing and is sending them into a dormant state.

Without immediate help from mother nature, it's only a matter of time before things go from bad to worse.
