The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department held its drug take back day from ten to two Saturday.

The event aimed to dispose of expired or unused prescription drugs that people no longer need. We spoke with the CEO of Muskingum Behavioral Health Steve Carrel about why they have the drug take back. He said that it's a good way to make sure all drugs are disposed of properly.

The Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department is holding a Drug Take Back Event.

It's Saturday, September 27 from 10AM to 2PM. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says all expired or unused medication will be accepted.

"Our service provides anything that you bring in prescription pills wise we'll take, including the containers they come in, liquid, the DEA wont take and we'll also take sharps that can be disposed of."

Volunteers and local law enforcement agencies worked together to get prescription drugs off the streets.

For the last three years, the DEA , the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department and the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office have held drug take back days for locals to safely dispose of their unwanted drugs. Sheriff Matt Lutz say he is pleased with Saturday's turn out.

Local officials are working to combat prescription drug abuse here in Muskingum County.

As a part of a national effort, the DEA teamed up with several area agencies on Saturday including the Sheriff's Office to collect and properly dispose of any unused or unwanted prescription medications.
