The Highway Patrol has announced the location of Friday’s (tonight’s) sobriety checkpoint.  Troopers along with the Somerset Police Department will set up between 8:00 pm and 12:00 am on State Route 13 just east of U.S. Route 22 in Perry County. The checkpoint, funded by federal grants, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. Troopers say if you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink.

The Highway Patrol says there will be another sobriety checkpoint in our area Friday. Troopers from the Lancaster Post say it will take place in Perry County. The checkpoint – funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The Highway Patrol says there were 429 driving while impaired related fatal crashed in which 478 people were killed last year in Ohio. The location of the checkpoint in Perry County will be announced Friday morning.

The Zanesville Post of the State HIghway Patrol will hold a sobriety checkpoint Friday night on US 22 in Newton Township.  Troopers say the location of the checkpoint is on 22 just south of  Wal-Mart.  It is scheduled to take place between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am.  The checkpoint is funded by federal grants and is designed to deter and intercept impaired drivers.  The Highway Patrol says if you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel...

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Sunday announced that Troopers will operate an OVI checkpoint this week in Muskingum County to deter and intercept imparied drivers.  The exact location of the checkpoint will be announced the morning of the checkpoint.  Whiz News will post the information on this website and on Whiz Radio and TV stations.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports less drunk driving arrests this Fourth of July.

Trooper Stephen Williams of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says locally they had around 600 stops, 400 of which were for speeding and other offenses. 75 were seatbelt violations, and only 5 were DUI arrests.

Some area high school students are learning the hard reality of drinking and driving.

As a part of the "Street Smart" program sponsored by Matesich Distributions, two certified paramedics came to Zanesville High School Monday morning to talk to juniors and seniors about the dangers of underage drinking, drinking and driving, illegal drug use, and not wearing a seatbelt.

Local law enforcement agencies teamed up over Superbowl weekend looking for drunk drivers and underage drinkers.

The effort began last Friday and ended on Monday. The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol along with Zanesville, South Zanesville, Dresden, and the Frazeysburg Police Departments and also the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office closely monitored highly traveled roadways.

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol is urging motorists to not drink and drive this New Year's Holiday.

Trooper Adam Mckenzie says to have a designated driver planned well in advance or to take a taxi if you have been drinking.

New Year's is right around the corner and that means so are the dangers of this holiday.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety analyzed data from 2000 to 2009 and found that an average of 80 people a year are killed in alcohol related crashes on New Year's Day.  The data also reveals that the number of people killed in alcohol related crashes dramatically increase around New Year's.

The Zanesville Police Department is joining a national effort to crack down on drunk driving.

The campaign "Over the Limit...Under Arrest" started last week and will continue through Labor Day.

"We're assigning an officer to patrol primarily, just to look for traffic offenses involving alcohol-related offenses," says Lt. Tony Coury.
