The upcoming school year is right around the corner, and the cost of new shoes for kids can be overwhelming.

Eastside Community Ministries is partnering with Wendy's, and WHIZ, for "Lace up for Kids," a shoe drive, benefiting the children of Muskingum County. Chairman, Sally Goins, said they put together this fundraiser to ensure every child starts school with a new pair of shoes.

The figures are out. The annual SOUPer Bowl raised over $13,000 for local charitable organizations.

Fellowship of Christ's Community, Christ's Table, Muskingum County Center for Seniors, Eastside Community Ministries and the Salvation Army all received $2,640. Co-Chair Mary Burkhart said the funds will help provide for thousands of meals for Christ's Table.

While most people like to sleep in on their holiday day off, runners from around the area hopped out of bed bright and early for the 7th Annual Race for Grace on Thursday.

"Fortunately, we've been able to stay inside the church keep us warm, but it's getting a little chilly," said runner Crae Merryman.

Many kids plan their first day of school outfit weeks in advance, and with any good outfit it starts with the shoes.

Over 1,000 area kids will soon be sporting a new pair of shoes.

It's all a part of the annual "Lace Up for Kids" program. Now that all the shoes have been collected, Wednesday began the preparations for the big giveaway.

Buying school supplies can be difficult for some families and Eastside Community Ministry is taking steps to lighten the load for those who might be struggling to check everything off the list.

A local fundraiser provided monetary donations to five service organizations in our area.

Eastside Community Ministry held a charity golf outing at Vista Golf Course on Saturday morning.

A Zanesville organization is taking applications for two programs that help local children go back to school in style.

Eastside Community Ministry is collecting school supplies and donations to fill up backpacks. Last year they gave away 750 backpacks to local children, and this year their goal is to reach 800 community kids.

Daybreak Rotary needs you to "like" their Facebook page, for every "like" that they get a non perishable food item will be donated to Christ's Table, Eastside Community Ministry and the Salvation Army. It's part of the club's "Feed the Need" campaign.
