It's a sign school days are drawing near...

School supplies are once again on the shelves. But, what happens when a child can't buy the necessities? That's when Eastside Community Ministry steps in with its Tools for Schools program. They need the communities help and are asking you to stuff the bus this weekend.

Lace Up For Kids kicked off Monday.

Wendy's Restaurants, the WHIZ Media Group and Eastside Community Ministries are teaming up to collect new tennis shoes for needy children to go back to school. The program was founded by Wendy's restaurant nearly 23 years ago.

Eastside Community Ministry hosted its 5th Annual Spud Luncheon on Sunday.

The public was invited to enjoy some home-cooked food at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in downtown Zanesville. All proceeds raised will benefit the ministry.

If you need a prom dress, a local organization can help and it won't cost you any money.  

The Eastside Community Ministry is giving away prom dresses to area high school students in Muskingum County.

"Senior year in general is very expensive for families and parents with senior pictures and proms and graduations, so this is just one of the ways that we can help ease that financial burden," said Development Director Joey Osborne.

A Roosevelt Middle School hallway is packed with thousands of school supplies in Zanesville, ranging from folders and notebooks to rulers and crayons.

Eastside Community Ministry will be packing 800 backpacks with these supplies Tuesday and Wednesday. They will be given to students, from first grade through high school, who pre-registered with the "Tools for School" program.

The pieces are falling into place for one local organization.

Eastside Community Ministry's Jigsaw Puzzle Contest took place Saturday afternoon at the John McIntire Library. Multiple teams competed to finish a 500 piece puzzle in four hours.

"We've sold puzzles for eastside for the last six years that was a fundraiser and this year we decided to have a contest with those puzzles," said Betsy Thomas, Eastside Board Member.

Friends of a well-known community figure are planning a memorial service in her honor.

Christine O'Sullivan Istok, 62, passed away at her home on February 24th. She was the Executive Director of the Eastside Community Ministry from 1992 to March of 2001.

The Zanesville Country Club is selling its merchandise for 70% off to help a charitable organization.

Mike Durant, the Head Golf Professional at the country club, says all a person has to do to get the discount is bring in three or more items to donate to the Eastside Community Ministry. The country club has been holding this sale since December 1st and Durant says people often bring in 10 or more items to donate.

An area school beat their own goal of collecting 1,000 items for a local organization.

The Bishop Fenwick School in Zanesville collected 1,200 cans of food, toiletries and other items to be donated to the Eastside Community Ministry.
