Young girls from around the area were able to shop for a free dress for their upcoming prom at the 5th annual "Once Upon a Prom" dress giveaway. The event was held at the Muskingum County Welcome Center and was sponsored by the East Side Community Ministry. There were over 600 dresses to choose from, all of which were donated by members of the community and by Jillian's. Five local charities received checks from the proceeds of this year's souper bowl event. The five beneficiaries are: Eastside Community Ministry, Muskingum County Center for Seniors, The Salvation Army, Fellowship of Christ's Community and Christ's Table.

The annual event in October raised almost fifteen hundred dollars for the five charities. Divided by five, each organization received almost three thousand dollars and those funds can go a long way.

An area ministry is hoping to hit it big this weekend during an annual fundraiser.

Tickets are still on sale for Eastside Community Ministry's annual "Riverboat Night" which takes place Friday from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Eagles Sticks in South Zanesville.

Development and Youth Program Director Joey Osborn said participants who arrive receive an envelope of 'play money' for traditional riverboat games, such as roulette poker and blackjack.

A Zanesville organization is asking for donations to help kids get ready to go back to school.

Eastside Community Ministry is collecting backpacks and supplies as part of its Tools For School program.  Co-chair Betsy Thomas said parents have been filling out applications all week.

Hundreds of people are taking advantage of a food giveaway.

The parking lot at Eastside Community Ministry was packed as volunteers passed out produce and other groceries.  Interim Director Anna Marie Katt said the items were donated by the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

Hundreds of teenage girls are going to prom in style thanks to the generosity of the community...

Eastside Community Ministry presented the "Once Upon A Prom Dress" Giveaway Sunday at the Muskingum County Welcome Center. Eastside's Program Committee Chairman Sally Goins said the facility was full of gowns, and she's grateful for the support.

The food pantry shelves look more bare at Eastside Community Ministry as more people come in for assistance.

Typically the pantry serves at most a handful of new families every month. That number jumped last month as they served 45 new families.

"Usually towards the end of the month we are extremely busy in a normal circumstance," explained Joey Osborn development and youth director at Eastside Community Ministry. "We have experienced a higher demand lately....

The first annual Riverboat Night was held at EagleSticks Golf Club tonight.

Eastside Community Ministry sponsored the event, which will benefit the food pantry, clothing bank and emergency relief programs.  Development Director Joey Osborn said it was time for a change.

A donation from an area business is helping kids get ready for school.

Coconis Furniture is donating 67 pairs of shoes and $100 to the Wendy's/WHIZ's Lace Up For Kids campaign.  For 23 years, the program has helped to collect new shoes for needy children.

"There's 150 kids still in need, so we're doing our part to help out the community and try to get shoes on kids' feet for the first day of school," said Bo Coconis.
