Republican Todd Sands has been elected as a Muskingum County Commissioner, winning by a large margin over Democrat John Bates and Independent Steve Strauss.

Sands received 18,877 votes, compared to 11,922 for Bates and 3,993 for Strauss.  Sands will replace Strauss as a Muskingum County Commissioner. 

Sands said he's grateful for his family, friends and other supporters that helped him win the race.  He said it's a surreal moment that hasn't sunk in quite yet.

Democrat Jerry Lavy has been re-elected as a Muskingum County Commissioner, winning a tight race with Republican Eddie Brock.

Lavy defeated Brock 17,305 votes to 16,619.  That's a difference of just 686 votes.  Lavy said it's a humbling experience to resume his duties as county commissioner.

He said his goal is to continue to find revenue and create jobs here in Muskingum County.

In Licking county Tim Bubb received 49,992 votes for the county commissioner seat, defeating James Snedden Jr. In other Licking county candidate news, Bryan Long defeated Doug Moreland 43,739 to 26,208 for the recorder seat.

All four Heath City Charter Amendments passed, but the Heath income tax for municipal operations lost, receiving 1629 votes for and 2755 votes against. Both the Granville Recreation District quarter-mill levy and the Granville Recreation District bond issue...

Election results for Coshocton county are in. The 1.12mill capital improvements levy for Coshocton City school district passed with 2814 votes for, and 1747 votes against. Also passing in Coshocton County  was the 3mill operation and maintenance for emergency medical services.

In the Coshocton county candidate races, Janet Mosier defeated Nina Richards for Clerk of Courts 10,217 to 4648. Susan Turner is the Coshocton county recorder after defeating Dave Thurson 10,082 to 4532....

In races of interest from Noble County Republican Stephen Bond defeats Bob Nau for County Commissioner 2,890 to 2,790.

Democrat Kelly Riddle becomes prosecuting attorney over Republican Robert Watson by over 2,000 votes.

The winner in the race for Noble County Recorder is Juanita Matheney over write-in candidate Eva Farley with 4,109 votes to 430.

In the race for auditor Republican Peggy Davis beats Democrat Jody Parrish-Polen.

In Muskingum County two major levy's on the ballot passed.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health District's 1mill levy for 10 years passes 21,722 to 13,131. The Muskingum County Mental Health Recover 1mill levy for ten years passed 21,092 to 13,747.

Failing was the West Muskingum School District Emergency levy for 5.9mills for five years. It failed with 2,829 votes for and 3,549 votes against.

Secretary of State Jon Husted is putting all 88 Ohio counties on the same early voting election schedule.

Muskingum County Board of Elections Director Chris Hamill said the office will be open an additional 46 hours from October 2 to November 2.

"We will of course have to work later, and it will cost the office approximately an additional $7,000," said Hamill.

Voters in the buckeye state can now update their addresses online.

Ohio Secretary of State John Husted said the change should help voters meet the requirement of being registered at their current address 30 days before an election.  Muskingum County Board of Elections Director Chris Hamill expects to see other benefits as well.

"It should help with the cost of the office staff to be able to have the ballot just done right through the computer system," said Hamill....

The results are in for the Perry County Commissioners races.

James O'Brien won the race for the Democrats, while Thad Cooperrider took the race for the Republicans. Ron Baker (R) won the race for County Treasurer, and will go against Democrat Melissa Walker in November. In the race for County Recorder, Democrat Jackie Hoover stood in the winners circle, and will face Republican Ashley Heavener.

Only two issues were on the Perry County ballot. Both the Corning and New Straitsville...

The results are in for the Guernsey County Commissioner election.

Dave Saft defeated Norman Wheeler in the democratic race, while Randy Mercer defeated Donald Warnock in the republican race.

The Londonderry Township and Spencer Township issues passed, but the Cambridge City Schools and Jackson Township issues did not pass.
