Fire crews responded to a house fire at 1235 Putnam Avenue in Zanesville Wednesday night.

The call for the blaze came in just before 10 p.m.   According to Fire Chief Eric Waltemire, the home has been vacant since the weekend. The fire started in the basement and spread upward from there.

It took crews about twenty minutes to control the blaze. The extent of the damage is unknown at this time, and the fire remains under investigation.

 At around 6:25am this morning the Zanseville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 229 Van Buren street.

The call was made by a fire fighter who was on his way to work. When crews arrived on scene the front half of the one and a half story structure was engulfed in flames. A house fire was reported at 2420 Crew Avenue Wednesday evening.

The call for the fire was received just before 6:45 p.m. Deputy Fire Chief of the Zanesville Fire Department Eric Waltemire described to us what happened.

A search of a section of the Muskingum River for a possible subject in the water yields no results.

Zanesville Fire Department spent just under an hour Monday morning searching for a man reportedly in the water, after a call came in to authorities. The caller told fire personnel they believed they saw a man near the Y-bridge wearing a white shirt with his arms over his head in the river.

A blaze erupted Friday afternoon at a garage behind a residence on Alfred Street destroying the structure.

According to Zanesville Fire Department Deputy Chief Eric Waltemire, around 3 p.m., South Zanesville dispatchers received several calls reporting heavy black smoke that could be seen for miles on the south end of town. The Zanesville Fire Department will be flushing the hydrants around Zanesville for the next few days.

The news of Kevin Thomas' promotion to Chief of the Zanesville Fire Department hasn't yet sunk in for him.

Zanesville Fire investigators try to determine the cause of a morning house fire on Mead Street.

The fire reported around 9:30a.m. at 323 Mead Street is being labeled suspicious by investigators. Assistant Chief Eric Waltemire said that the two story home was vacant at the time of the fire and had no working utilities. It's unknown if anyone was occupying the home illegally.
