Harsher rules and higher standards could soon be in place for exotic animal owners in Ohio, if a State Senate passed a bill becomes law.

Ohioans would be banned from acquiring new exotic animals, and previous owners would have to comply with stricter rules. We talked with Governor John Kasich when he was in town last week. He says he recalls the release of the exotic animals in Muskingum County, and agrees with the proposed legislation making it tougher to be an owner.

The State of Ohio is moving closer to banning exotic animals. Wednesday Governor John Kasich received a recommendation to ban ownership of the animals starting in 2014. A study group is proposing that Ohio ban new ownership of venomous snakes, monkeys, tigers and other dangerous animals with only limited exceptions.
