Public health officials and officials from Falls Township met with the Muskingum County Commissioners Monday to discuss a growing sewage problem for an area neighborhood.

The problem is occurring in a residential area of approximately 116 homes in Licking View. The Ohio State Veterinary Hospital and members of the Falls Township Fire Department received awards and a belated recognition for saving the life of the late "Zero", once a member of the Muskingum County Sheriff's K-9 unit.

Four area fire departments responded to the scene of  a house fire in Newtown Township this afternoon..

The fire was called in by a neighbor who witnessed smoke pouring out of windows of the home next door at 2775 Thompson Run Road.
South Zanesville, Roseville, Falls Township, and Newton Township fire departments responded to the call and contained the fire to a few rooms within the house. No one was home at the time of the fire.

A house fire at 5485 Pinecrest Drive in Zanesville destroys a portion of the residence.

According to Falls Township EMS Captain, Ted Norris the fire department responded to the scene and saw smoke and flames coming from the south end of the home. Icy conditions in Dresden presented challenges for fire fighters at the scene of a garage fire this evening. Chris Baruning of 5180 Fawn Drive called Falls Township Fire Department after 3 PM to extinguish a fire in his garage.

A fire destroys a barn in Muskingum County.

At around 1:30 p.m. the Dresden Fire Department was called to 10362 Frazeysburg Road to deal with a fully engulfed barn fire. Firefighters say they have yet to determine a cause of the blaze.

A woman suffered injuries after her car careened into an embankment on Linden Avenue at around 6:30 Thursday evening.

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says that the woman was traveling towards Zanesville going southbound when she struck a mini van and lost control of her vehicle. The victim was alone at the time of the accident.

The Muskingum County Commissioners and Falls Township are at an impasse when it comes to a sewer problem.

Last week some residents of Licking Road had sewage back up into their homes. A Falls Township Trustee also said one man's septic tank blew its lid because of pressure and 4,000 gallons of water were pumped out of it.

In order to help the residents Falls Township and County Engineer Doug Davis tried to help by finding where the line ran and unblocked it.

Thursday evening storms created a headache for one local homeowner.

Lightning struck a home at 3695 Dillon Falls Road just before 6:30 p.m., causing the attic of the home to catch fire. The family was home when it happened, but managed to escape safely before crews arrived.

A fire rips through a home on Vista View Drive, Tuesday morning.

The fire destroyed the home at 2000 Vista View Drive. Falls Township Fire Chief J.D. Johnson said the fire began in the basement and was reported shortly before 9am.

"The fire went undetected for some time," said Chief Johnson. "I don't know if there was smoke detectors in the house or if they were working or not."
