Robots from around the region swarmed Ohio State University's Newark campus Saturday.

Twenty-four teams representing Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia competed in the FTC tech robot challenge. Students in grades 7 through 12 along with independent teams spent months developing strategies and building their robots.

A local aviation icon and legend was honored with a statue at The Works museum in Newark Saturday.

Jerrie Mock was the first woman to fly solo around the world in 1964, not to be confused with Amelia Earhart, who flew across the Atlantic ocean almost 40 years prior. Mock was a resident of Newark before making her coast to coast journey.
