It's time now to announce the Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project featured artist for this month.

Muskingum University Art Professor and Gallery Director Yan Sun specializes in oil painting. His work has been known nationally and internationally. While we were not able to catch up with Sun to talk to him about his work, ZAAP's Gary Graham spoke with us about how soon got started in the art field. With March here, it's now time to recognize two of this month's featured artists.

Michelle Black of Studio 77 in downtown Zanesville has a knack for photography. She started taking pictures with a point and shoot film camera when she had her son around six years ago. At the time, she was in cosmetology school and worked at a salon and knew that cosmetology just wasn't for her.

Z.A.A.P. Art Gallery is displaying a husband-wife duo as this month's featured artists.

Jaye Hayes doesn't call himself an artist. Instead he says what he does is a hobby, one he's been doing for 40 years.

"I liked drawing as a young fella. And when I was about 19 my dad got a leather kit and I found it was a really interesting medium so I developed my own style," says Hayes.

For downtown Zanesville, it's a chance for the community to enjoy local artwork, music, and food.

Galleries in the downtown area will be displaying their art as usual this Friday, but Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project, also known as Z.A.A.P., is getting the community involved.

The last First Friday Artwalk of 2009 will be this week.
