The constant rainfall in our area is finally takings it toll. High water closed a number of roads Friday and have Dillon Dam officials on alert.

Project Manager Clifton Kilpatrick said grounds are currently saturated from a mixture of rain, snow and ice causing a concern for flooding.

"So this time of year we draw the lake down to winter pool elevation, about 3-feet lower then summer pool, to compensate for the run-off," said Kilpatrick.

Areas both north and south...

Officials at the Dillon Dam said they have been closely monitoring the water levels from the recent rainfall and have not seen any major issues.

Project Manager Cliff Kilpatrick said this weekend they had to shut down the dam to minimal flow to alleviate any flooding in the McConnelsville area. He said the levels have dropped much quicker than expected.

"The other side of that coin is the lake shot up and is presently 18 and a half feet above normal pool, when...

Rain contines to fall throughout our area and that means there is a chance for flooding.

According to Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Wesley Sass, southeast Ohio could see some potentially heavy rain this weekend. Marlene Henderson with the Muskingum Valley Red Cross says one of the biggest things residents should not do if roads begin to flood is drive through them.

"You just never know if there's a swift current with that and so many people have lost their...

With all of the rain we have had there is a greater risk for flooding and some areas are already affected.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross says areas prone to flooding will likely have more problems.

"There are some areas where mobile home parks are close to some high water situations and yes the water will get up in there and cause a lot more damage because they are built differently than a regular home," said Julie Davis, Muskingum Valley Red Cross.

If you suffer...

Dillon Dam is beginning to prepare for the rainfall that is expected to arrive by Wednesday.

The dam is working in cooperation with 15 other area projects to monitor water levels to ensure that flooding is prevented.

"We don't all want to be releasing water at the same time and so some of the projects have to release water and then when they release water to keep from flooding down stream, we will hold back," said Project Manager Clifton Kilpatrick.

An excess of rain can be one of the most dangerous natural disasters, partially due to flooding. When flooding is a possibility you must have a plan.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross advises people to have an escape plan. You should pack a bag with enough food, water, clothing and medications for three days.

"If by chance you cannot get out of your house make sure that you have enough supplies in there until the water level would recede or until a rescue worker could...
