While the nation is getting fewer flu shots this year, people in Zanesville are steadily vaccinating against the virus.

Rambo Memorial Health Center in Zanesville says that they have seen typical numbers of people getting their flu shots this year.

"It's been pretty steady and our numbers have been pretty close to what they have been in the past for this time of year," says Gloria Brown, R.N.

If you haven't received your annual flu shot, there is still time.

Rambo Memorial Health Center is continuing to offer free flu shots to local residents. Executive Director Crystal Bebout says 16,000 shots were ordered for Muskingum County, but a majority have yet to be given due to lack of participation.

"127,000 people a year get hospitalized and a majority of these people that get hospitalized for the flu symptoms are elderly people and children," said Bebout.

The Muskingum County Health Department is offering free flu shots at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds today. The event started just after 6:30 Thursday morning and will continue until 7:00 Thursday evening. The shots are free to Muskingum County residents only. This shot protects against both Seasonal and H1N1 Flu.   This event also serves as an exercise of the community’s ability to rapidly provide immunizations to a large number of people in a short amount time. ...

The Salvation Army will be offering free flu shots on Tuesday. Officials say that personnel from the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department will five free H1N1 shots between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. The Salvation Army is located at 515 Putnam Avenue.

The Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department says the
H-1-N-1 vaccine is now available to anyone who wants one. And officials say even though the illness has been in decline in recent weeks, the potential for widespread flu after the first of the year is still very strong. Both nasal spray and injection vaccines will be offered December 28th through the 30th at the Rambo Memorial Health Center or by appointment at the health department. The vaccine is free of charge.
