The battle for the MVL title will take place Friday night as Tri-Valley hosts Maysville at Jack Anderson Stadium. The Panthers are 8-0 and 6th in the state in Division IV while the Scotties are 8-0 and 5th in the state in Division III. 

The game will be broadcast on WHIZ Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Highlights will also be featured on "Friday Night Blitz."

The Crooksville Ceramics gave Maysville a scare Thursday night at the Maysville Athletic Complex, but the Panthers dominated the second half and coasted to a 49-15 victory.

Couger Clarke returned an interception 102 yards to paydirt with seven seconds remaining in the half to give the Panthers a seven-point lead after 24 minutes of play. Maysville then scored 27 unanswered points in the final two quarters.

 The Tri-Valley Scotties return 18 starters from a team that won the MVL for the third consecutive time in 2013, including three all-Ohio selections. Needless to say, Justin Buttermore and company have high aspirations in Dresden.

Zanesville marched all that way to the D2 state final four last season before losing to eventual state champ Loveland. The Blue Devils graduated plenty of experience, so it's up to this year's group to reload and prove that they are still a force to be reckoned with. J.T. Raymond has the story.

The Sheridan Generals boast a senior-laden lineup with plenty of lettermen returning from the 2013 team that missed the playoffs with a 6-4. This season, the Red Rage are looking to get back to the playoffs for the first time in three years. WHIZ's Pat Chiesa took the trip to Thornville for the story.

 The West Muskingum Tornadoes fell behind, 10-0, to Bishop Rosecrans only to score 14 unanswered points en route to victory at Sulsberger Stadium. Seth Mirgon fired a 21-yard bullet to Tyler Gibson with 55 seconds remaining in the game for the win. 

West opens the season at Philo next Friday while Rosecrans will battle Fairfield Christian next Saturday.

The Philo Electrics are coming off a wildly successful 2013 season that saw them not only make the playoffs for the first time since 1995, but route John Glenn in the first round.
