Genesis continues to develop design plans on the new medical center project in Zanesville.

Earlier this week, Genesis selected SmithGroup JJR/Trinity and Turner Construction Company as the architect and construction manager for the new facility. Genesis CEO Matthew Perry said they will bring in local hands to help.

Genesis is the first hospital in Central Ohio to implant a new cardiac pacing device - giving new options to patients affected by congestive heart failure.

The Food and Drug Administration recently approved use of the device, known as a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator or CRT-D. The new device is an improvement over those currently on the market because it features four electrodes to regulate the heart, opposed to only two that are used in current models.

Architects are now working to design Genesis' new Expanded Medical Center.

CEO of Genesis Healthcare System Matthew Perry said they hope to break ground by the end of 2012. The new facility will include a new patient care tower attached to a renovated Bethesda Hospital. Also being built on the campus will be a new outpatient cancer center and medical office building.

Genesis Healthcare System received national recognition.

A new designation will bring more federal resources to the Genesis Health Care System.

Senator Sherrod Brown announced Tuesday that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has labeled Genesis as a Sole Community Hospital.

Those who worked in the area's coal mines in the past, could be at-risk for breathing problems, including Black Lung Disease.

A life-saving procedure celebrates its 50th birthday this year.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, or CPR was developed in 1960 by the American Heart Association. Since then, it has continued to save peoples' lives.
