Some big news when it comes to Healthcare in Zanesville and Southeastern Ohio. Genesis HealthCare System has sold millions of dollars in property to a real estate investment trust. After paying associated debt, Genesis received around 20-Million dollars for the property which includes buildings that house outpatient services, administrative support functions and physicians practices. The Zanesville Surgery Center in Zanesville is changing. The joint venture operation with Genesis and community physicians is now going to be a hospital-based service. Another meeting was held with the commissioners on Monday.

Genesis Healthcare officials mets with commissioners to receive approval on changes they're interested in making to a former bond from 1996.

"Genesis uses our bond rating and we have a Triple A bond rating in Muskingum County, so it helps the hospital to use our bond rating," said County Commissioner John Bates.

Genesis HealthCare System and Unison Health Plan of Ohio have agreed to extend their negotiating period. Unison provides services to Ohio Medicaid members in two separate programs. An agreement would keep Genesis in the plan’s network through January 31, 2011. The move will allow for uninterrupted care for Unison’s 8600 members in Muskingum County while terms for a new contract are negotiated. Bob Melsheimer of Zanesville received the 2010 Genesis Community Service award Thursday evening at the donor appreciation dinner.

Every day hundreds of volunteers walk through the doors at Genesis Good Samaritan and Bethesda Hospital, to help out the staff, families, and most importantly, the patients.

Muskingum County Common Pleas Judge Kelly Cottrill sentences a Zanesville woman, who pled guilty in July to stealing more than $142,000 from a volunteer group at Genesis.

46-year-old Tamera Mealey stood before Judge Cottrill in tears.

"I would like to indicate my client has no criminal history. She's cooperated with authorities. She's acknowledged her wrongdoing and accepted responsibility, and she's very remorseful, " says Mealey's Defense Attnory, Mr. Stubbins.
