College Night

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, OHIO (WHIZ) - College Night hosted by Zane State and Scholarship Central will be held Thursday, March 12th from 6:00 P.M. To 8:30 P.M. in the Zane State Campus Center. The event aims to inform students from 7th grade to seniors in high school about college decisions, financial aid and scholarships.

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland signed Senate Bill 235 into law on Thursday.

The new law makes human trafficking a stand-alone felony offense and makes compelling a minor under the age of 16 to prostitution a first-degree felony. Kidnapping for the purpose of involuntarily servitude is now a first-degree felony offense as well.

The bill passed the Ohio Senate by a vote of 32-0 on December 1st and passed the Ohio House 96-0 this past week.

The governor was in Cambridge today at the Zane State Willet Pratt Training Center to speak about how the college and the Appalachian Regional Commission are working to improve and invest in the people of Appalachia.

The ARC has worked to improve many areas of Appalachia including roadways, sewer and water systems, and educational institutions like Zane State. Governor Strickland was able to speak with one student whose experience at Zane State has changed her life....

Ohioans are still reeling from a sluggish economy.

That's why Governor Ted Strickland says the government needs to redouble its efforts to get things back on track.

"We have to make sure first that the safety-net programs are there for them. Then we've got to do everything we can to create jobs. If we create jobs, it will solve most of the other problems we have, " says Strickland.

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland says he believes in Ohio.

He delivered his State of the State Address in front of the state legislature earlier today.

Strickland spoke of the advancements the Buckeye state is making in energy, education, agriculture, and veterans' benefits.
