Public health officials and officials from Falls Township met with the Muskingum County Commissioners Monday to discuss a growing sewage problem for an area neighborhood.

Officials from the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department met with the Muskingum County Commissioners on Thursday to negotiate a new rental agreement for the lease of their building on 7th St.

Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department Epidemiologist Kristen Baker says Pertussis, which is commonly known as the Whooping Cough, has a trend of increasing every 3 to 5 years. Experts said this flu season could end up being as bad as the H1N1 outbreak in 2009.

The Health Commissioner of Muskingum County is asking for a renewal levy to be put on the November ballot.

Corey Hamilton met with the Muskingum County Commissioners Monday morning to discuss the levy.

Hamilton said the current one mill, ten year levy is set to expire at the end of the year, and a renewal is needed to help balance the budget at the Health Department.

The Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department is having phone problems. Public Information Officer Jennifer Hiestand says her office is having problems receiving phone calls from Time Warner phone customers. Also callers will not be able to reach the Health Department phone menu and can’t leave voice messages. In the meantime special phone numbers are being put in place for those affected.
