In the midst of the first heat wave for this summer, temperatures are soaring into the 90's and because of the humid climate we live in, the heat can have serious health complications.

It's going to be dangerously hot in our area the rest of this week and some people will need to be extra careful.

It could feel like 100 degrees tomorrow and may cause problems to those sensitive to the heat like the elderly and the very young.

David Davis is the Director of Emergency and Trauma Services at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital and said the two most common ailments people should be on the lookout for are heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

With temperatures forecasted to be in the nineties this Memorial Day weekend, local health experts are reminding citizens to keep their cool.

Dr. Vicki Whitacre of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department said recognizing the signs of heat stroke is the important thing.

The near triple digit heat has local health officials on high alert this week.
