The Sheridan Generals have new head coaches in boys and girls basketball, but the faces are familiar.

Doug Fisher has switched from the girls team to the boys team. Fisher leaves the Lady Generals after 22 years of service and over 300 career wins. He replaces Greg  Booth, who stepped down from the post following an 18-6 season. 

Fisher's replacement as head coach of the Lady Generals is his former assistant, J.D. Walters, who inherits a 13-11 team with plenty of talent...

Arguably the top basketball-specific strength and conditioning coach in the country is coming to River View High School at the end of the month. DeMatha Catholic High School strength and conditioning coach Alan Stein will be running a clinic in Warsaw on May 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Stein gained notoriety by coaching 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant when Durant played for Montrose Christian School, helping the Texas recruit bulk up for the college level. Stein has worked as a strength...

Philo point guard Layke Fletcher made it official Thursday morning. He will continue his basketball career at Division II Alderson Broaddus University in Phillipi, West Virginia.

Fletcher also received interest from nearby Muskingum University. He plans to major in sport management at ABU, citing the school's academic reputation as a key component to his decision.

"(Alderson Broaddus) is on top of basketball a lot but they're also on top of academics," Fletcher said....

Philo's Corrie Burkhardt nabbed MVP honors with 20 points and 8 assists as the West girls handled the East, 100-66, in the District 12 Girls All-Star Game. Crooksville's Jordan Smith stole the show at halftime by winning the three-point contest.

After 16 years and 235 wins, Marty Bice is no longer the head girls basketball coach at Tri-Valley. Bice confirmed on Wednesday that his contract was non-renewed by the school board.

Sheridan boys basketball coach Greg Booth has resigned from his post following five winning seasons in Thornville.

"I have a lot of other things that I need to devote some time to," he said Saturday, adding that he will begin taking graduate school classes this summer.

Booth turned in an 80-34 record during his tenure that includes an MVL title in the 2010-2011 season. The Generals finished 16-8 this past season.

Dover gave John Glenn quite the ball game, but the Muskies survived in overtime, 49-45, to advance to the regional final. Matt Weir scored a game-high 17 for the winning side. 

The Muskies are set to meet Walnut Ridge at the Convo on Saturday. The Scots overcame a double-digit deficit to upset Unioto, 46-45. 

Tip-off is at 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Z92.

Camden Craig scored the game-winner with 10 seconds left to help Tri-Valley upend 6-seed New Albany, 52-48, at Jimmy Allen Gymnasium. The Dawgs march on to battle Newark in the district final this Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Ohio Dominican University.
