CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – For many people throughout the 1940s and 50s, the fictional cowboy Hopalong Cassidy symbolized the American spirit. Friday, the hometown of the actor that played “Hoppy,” had a statue dedicated to him.

Cowboy enthusiast from all over the world have a place to unite this weekend in Cambridge.

The Hopalong Cassidy Festival is this Friday and Saturday. It's named after Hopalong Cassidy a fictional cowboy character played by William Boyd who was born 18 miles west of Cambridge. Laura Bates is the founder of the event and says it has grown since it started twenty three years ago.

Every year people come from all over the world meet in Cambridge to celebrate a local celebrity.

This weekend marked the 20th anniversary of the first Hopalong Cassidy Festival which honors actor William Boyd who was raised in Cambridge. He's most famous for his TV character Hopalong Cassidy who came to life in the 30's. Creator of the festival Laura Bates said some of the people that come have been to all 20.
