 Judging by Thursday's warm temperatures, it's clear that spring is in the air, and at John McIntire Elementary, they celebrated with a Spring Festival.

Students of all ages attended the first annual Spring Festival where they could purchase tickets to participate in over 20 spring themed activities.

Flipping open a book doesn't always have to be about school. First grade teacher, Marla Walker said it can also be fun.

"Just trying to have fun and inspiring the children to want to read everyday."

This week is the Read Across America Week, and students at John McIntire Elementary are celebrating by reading their favorite Dr. Seuss books. When reading, Walker said her students think reading time is about fun.

It was a debate over Rainbow Loom bracelets at John McIntire Elementary Wednesday afternoon.

After hearing over the announcements that Loom bracelets were banned by Principal Kacey Cottrill, fourth graders Josie Van Kirk, Allie Walker and Morgan Smith, wrote letters to Principal Cottrill explaining why their favorite accessory should be allowed in school.

On Wednesday the Future Educators at OUZ distributed school supplies and winter weather accessories for students and teachers at John McIntire Elementary. Megan Moore, a student in the organization, says they've been collecting donations from both students and faculty, and from area businesses.
