The Dillon Falls Store held its first ever coyote hunting contest this weekend.

Fifteen hunters took to the woods in pursuit of the biggest coyote. Per the contests guidelines hunters were only allowed to use guns and bows to find their animals, and a cash prize would be awarded to the biggest coyote killed, and the most weight total.

Saturday is the first day people can purchase their fishing licenses for 2014.

Fishing licenses purchased last year are still valid until March 28th. The prices remain the same as the 2013 rates and fishing limits have changed in some counties, but not in our area. Deer gun season ends on Sunday and so far, it  looks like it's going well for most hunters. Kathy McCann, the owner of the Dillon Falls Store, says her store has already checked in over 50 deer within the past two days.

The woods of Muskingum County and the rest of Ohio were filled with hunters on Monday. It was the first day of deer gun season.

Approximately 90,000 deer are expected to be killed during deer season in Ohio this year and Muskingum County is getting in on the action.

Hunting season is in full swing in Muskingum County and experts are sharing their knowledge.

Archery Season officially starts this Saturday in Ohio. But this year, the deer limit has changed. Kathy McCann, owner of the Dillon Falls Store says this year, hunters can kill one buck and just three does in Muskingum County. On October 12, the Antlerless Deer Muzzleloader Season starts.

Hunters have one more day to use a muzzleloader to hunt for deer.

This is the second set of dates for muzzleloaders this season, the first being in the middle of October for five days. This is the last non archery deer hunting date till next fall. According to Kathy McCann, of Dillon Falls Store, this last season has its pros and cons.

This weekend hunters will get another chance to bag a deer that may have eluded them during the week long gun season.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has allowed this extra weekend of hunting since 2006, in response to a request for extended weekend hunting hours. Despite hunters being able to check their deer in on-line, locally check-in stations are seeing quite a few people walk through their doors.

At Dillon Falls Store, over 70 pictures of deer have taken over one wall of the business. That's how many deer owner Kathy McCann said they checked in on the first day. That's more than the first day last year. McCann said there's one part of the week she enjoys the most.
