Since 2008, a local organization has helped kindergartners get prepared for the nearing school year and that tradition continued on Saturday.

This is the sixth year for the Muskingum Families and Children First Back Pack and School Supplies Event. The children were able to fill their bags with supplies and experience new activities.

Today's kindergartners are learning at a faster pace, and have teachers who make learning fun. WHIZ went back to kindergarten to see what kindergartners are learning.

For kindergartners these days it's not just about the ABC's.

"We read, write, math, social studies," says kindergarten teacher Connie Still.

Zanesville parents, it's time to register your child for kindergarten.

You can do so tomorrow through Thursday at the Zanesville City Schools building on 4th Street from three to seven p.m.

The district wants to get an idea on how many children to expect for next year.

"It helps us prepare all the classrooms. How many classrooms do we need here? How many classrooms do we need in the south? It'll just help us, " says Kevin Appleman of Zanesville City Schools.
