Linden Avenue Closed for Sinkhole Repairs

ZANESVILLE, OHIO (WHIZ) - The City of Zanesville and the Genesis Wyoming Railroad are working hand in hand to repair the sinkhole on Linden Ave. just past Goodman Steel. The road will be closed Tuesday for an estimated two days so that repairs can be completed.

The City and the Genesis Wyoming Railroad are working hand in hand to complete repairs of the sinkhole on Linden Avenue.

We spoke to Chip Saunders, Engineer for the City of Zanesville who told us they had to dig 20 feet down to the location of the hole and reinforce it with 12 foot wide trench boxes. Saunders told us just how the sinkhole appeared on the roadway.

Just after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday scanner traffic indicated a car chase involving a vehicle leaving a drug house.

The chase went on to Linden Avenue, and according to scanner traffic, the vehicle being pursued hit another vehicle on Lee Street. Officials indicated the suspect was going 65 miles per hour on State Route 146 and ran a traffic light at Adams Lane before the vehicle wrecked and flipped in front of the Muskingum Recreation Center.

An accident Tuesday night resulted in the driver of a scooter being sent to the hospital.

According to Zanesville Police, the accident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the intersection of Linden Avenue and Adair Avenue. Police said the driver of a white Chevy pickup truck made an illegal left hand turn and struck the scooter. The truck then fled the scene. The sheriff's office was able to track down the vehicle a short while after on Dale Road.

A portion of Linden Avenue in Zanesville will be closed next week.

City Officials say the roadway will be closed from Lee Street to the Y-Bridge Monday, August 25 through Friday ,August 29.

Crews will be repairing and painting the roadway.

Detours will be posted.

The Muskingum County Engineer's Office is alerting motorists of a road repair project on Linden Avenue.

Officials say the road will be closed between Military Road and Taylor Street  starting Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m to 3:30 p.m. each day.

The intersection of Linden Avenue and Military Road will also be closed to traffic.

Motorists should use an alternate route during this time.

The City of Zanesville said Linden Avenue will remain closed on the southbound lane and open on the northbound lane from Lee Street to West Main Street until Friday, June 27, while repair work is done to a wall in the area.

The Department of Public Service announced the underpass lane will be closed to all traffic while work is completed. A wall near the railroad underpass on Linden Avenue suffered damage, after a vehicle crashed into it.

Crews responded to a fire around 6:30 Thursday evening.

The blaze started at a structure behind the Zane Food Mart off of Linden Avenue. The Zanesville Fire Department responded to the scene. The Assistant Chief says he has an idea of what might have caused the fire.

"Right after that thunderstorm came through we were on a couple of other calls when we got a call that lightening struck and a building was on fire at this address, " said Assistant Chief Dave Huey.

A fatal accident has knocked out power to part of Linden Avenue. 

Mayor Jeff Tilton tells WHIZ-TV that during the accident a power pole was broken. The accident happened in front of the Credit Union on Linden. 

As a result some residents and businesses along Linden Avenue will be without power for part of Saturday.

Mayor Jeff Tilton said the power outage will occur from The Barn the the Y-Bridge. 

He expects power to be restored by Noon on Saturday....

Wet roads may have been the cause of an injury accident Thursday evening.

According to Patrolman Kyle Brookover, a black car was rear-ended by a blue Dodge pickup truck while waiting at the light on Adair avenue and Linden road in Zanesville-- both cars were eastbound.

Brookover says the rainy weather may have been a factor in the accident, but at this time they aren't completely sure. The driver of the black vehicle was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries...
