Those aboard the Lorena Sternwheeler Aug. 15 traveled through time.

They took a trip down the Muskingum River and came across a battle between the north and south during the Civil War.

Rick Hahn of the 76th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Company A waited for the boat to cross Riverside Park and then began to engage with artillery. Hahn said that while this 25 year long hobby is exciting it's about learning and teaching in a very personal way.

"There was many Civil Wars,...

All of the heavy rain this season caused local river levels to rise, resulting in problems for area businesses.

The Lorena Sternwheeler was one most-affected by the high water levels, but Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce Vice-president, Kelly Ashby, said business is now functioning as normal.

"The Lorena Sternwheeler is definitely seasonal, and it is very much weather-permitting, and so we did have a couple of weeks of high water due to the rain, but the...

The Lorena Sternwheeler will begin her tour of the Muskingum river in just 18 days, and some are wondering if the river conditions will be favorable.

The Lorena Sternwheeler went through a routine inspection by the Coast Guard in March and it turns out the repairs weren't as expensive as they originally thought.

"We are very excited the Lorena Sternwheeler is back in the water and it has already set sail," said Kelly Ashby, V.P. of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce.

Ashby says there will be public rides, dinner, lunch and twilight cruises and a variety of different themed rides too.

The Lorena could spend her summer season on shore.

The sternwheeler was expected back in the Muskingum River May 1 after it was removed last week for a coast guard inspection.

Muskingum County Commissioner Jim Porter said that to run this summer the vessel must have serious work done. The Coast Guard found several areas that need rewelded and a lot of the hull on the sides has to be replaced and that could come at a major expense.

Currently, the county's maintenance...
