A two vehicle injury accident occurred Thursday afternoon in Downtown Zanesville.

The collision happened on 6th Street and Canal. Sergeant Jon McCoy of the Zanesville Police Department explained what happened.

"On arrival, through the investigation, the investigation disclosed that a red light was ran on 6th Street with a small Nissan occupied one time which collided with a full size Ford F-150 turning left from Marietta Street onto the 6th Street Bridge."

Members of the Zanesville Fire and Police departments worked together to host their annual open house.

Local families had the chance to get an up close and personal view of the two organizations. Lt. Doug Hobson says it's a chance for the community to see the latest additions to the station including a new ambulance and ladder truck.

The Zanesville Fire Department needs your help digging them out of a dangerous winter situation.

Fire fighters say that the last few winter storms have left area fire hydrants covered with snow. There are around 1,200 hydrants in the city of Zanesville and the fire department is unable to make it to all of them.

The Zanesville Fire Department used the cold weather to perform ice safety training on Wednesday.

For two hours firefighters learned the correct way to save someone who has fell through the ice in a real life simulation. Firefighters say they will first call out to the the person, then send them a rope, but if there is no response they go in and get them.
