The busiest road in Zanesville is now on it's way to getting a lot worse- before it gets better.

Maple Avenue's resurfacing project began Wednesday. The project will have two stages- beginning at the north end of the project near Route 60 and Shannon Road then slowly continue South to Adair Avenue. Construction will take place during the day hours due to over head electrical wiring posing a safety concern to dump trucks underneath if not seen.

The busiest road in Zanesville is about to get a lot worse -- thanks to a big re-paving project.

Maple Avenue will be resurfaced from Adair Avenue through Shannon Road, a stretch of almost 10 miles. Construction is set to begin Wednesday and not be finished until the end of October. A local businessman is now bringing his ethnic influence to Zanesville.

Construction work in the city of Zanesville is bound to cause more than a few headaches lasting into this fall.

Monday July 18 State Route 666 North will close for a week so water water lines can be tied in to the new water plant.

"Most of the work needs to be done in the State Route there it will open to and include Riverside Park but northbound traffic will have to be detoured," said Public Service Director Mike Sims.

One person is taken to the hospital following a crash in Zanesville.

It happened around 5:30 Wednesday evening on Maple Avenue near St Louis Avenue.

According to Officer Shane Starkey with the Zanesville Police Department, a red Pontiac rear ended a black Ford that was traveling southbound.

The female driver of the Pontiac was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries.

The resurfacing of Maple Avenue is set to take place August first.

The work, which is being done by ODOT, will effect Maple from Adair Avenue to Fairview Road. While the work may cause a headache for drivers, District 5 Deputy Director, Joe Rutherford, says it will be a vast improvement.

Two people are seriously injured in an early morning crash on Saturday that temporarily shut down part of Maple Avenue in Zanesville.

Sergeant Chris Rice with the Zanesville Police Department said it happened around 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Brown Street.

Beginning Thursday night, a portion of Maple Avenue in Zanesville will be closed for a water line project.

The Water Department will be installing a new water main across all five lanes of Maple Avenue at Harding Road.

Both directions of Maple Avenue from Princeton Avenue to Bell Street will be closed Thursday from 9 p.m. until approximately 9 a.m. Friday.

North and south bound traffic on Maple Avenue is advised to use Taylor and Bell Streets.
