The Muskingum County and Guernsey County Sheriff's Office both retired one of their K-9's this year and on Wednesday, they each added a new German Shepherd to the department.

"We try and keep one on every shift," said Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz. "We've been doing that for the last several years and since we had one retired, it's time to get a new one."

An old building is getting a new purpose.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz, met with Muskingum County Commissioners to discuss using the old work release building on Old Adamsville road for storage for different local entities.

"The Board of Elections is going to use one of our old dorms that the work release pisoners use to sleep in as storage for their machines and some of their records, " said Lutz

The State Attorney General says the number of licenses issued for carrying concealed weapons has increased this year.

Attorney General Mike Dewine says the county sheriffs have issued more than 37,000 licenses in the first quarter and 31,000 of them were new. Owner of Steve's Buy Sell and Trade, David O'Connell says he can hardly keep guns on the shelves.

Sheriff Lutz says three 17-year-old Maysville High School students are in custody for playing a prank on a friend involving air-soft pellet guns. At 9:45 this morning, the sheriff's office received a call reporting what appeared to be a robbery involving three males carrying guns into a trailer and a description of their vehicles. Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz says the drug deal happened early this morning in Zanesville. Two Muskingum County residents were selling prescription drugs to four males who live in other counties and then attempted to rob them. The two Muskingum County residents were able to get money from them and then took off.

When it comes to threats involving school violence local officials said they don't see it often.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said they do see a lot of secondary complaints, where people see things on Facebook and report it. He explained that most of the time they find that people use the site as a place to vent. But, no matter how small or big the problem may be it doesn't stop them from following up on any reports of violence.

Two dispatchers with the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office are being recognized nationally...

Joleen Kinsel and Bill Rowe received Gold Star Dispatchers Awards from the state for their efforts during last year's exotic animal incident. Sheriff Matt Lutz said that with all of the chaos that night, they handled their job flawlessly.

The Muskingum County Coroner has released the final report on Terry Thompson, the Kopchak road man who released dozens of wild animals before committing suicide.

The findings show that Thompson had no alcohol or illegal drugs in his system. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz reacted to the release of the autopsy report.

Law enforcement is driving to keep front license plates on all Ohio vehicles.
