The "Battle of the Panthers" is just two days away as 4-seeded Licking Valley is set to host 5-seeded Maysville at Randy Baughman Stadium. Unlike most playoff matchups, these two teams know a thing or two about one another.

Maysville hosted Licking Valley in a scrimmage in August and the Blue and Gold came away with a 35-14 victory. But Maysville kicker Nate Valle says a lot has changed over the past three months.

They are the team no one imagined playing in Week 11 - except for the players themselves. A first-year head coach and a history of being somewhere between average and bad couldn't stop the Panthers in 2012. On Saturday night, the boys in blue and gold look to upset the perennial playoff contending Big Red in Steubenville.

After hovering around the .500 mark for three consecutive seasons, the Maysville Panthers are ready to turn the corner. Former Coshocton assistant Craig Clarke has been tabbed to lead the Panthers around that corner and is looking to do so with hard hitting football for four full quarters. Football season is back, but so are the injuries.

Between practice and games, football players are taking big hits.

"Football is a rather violent game there's a lot of collision, so a concussion has always been a major concern I think of all coaches," said Maysville High School Head Football Coach Whit Parks.
