An Ohio organization that promotes the well being of children stopped in Zanesville on Thursday.

Voices for Ohio's Children is an advocacy group that researches issues facing Ohio's children and tries to find remedies for those problems on a local and national scale.

Local drug counselors see Medicaid expansion as a chance to treat a segment of our community left in a funding gap.

Muskingum Behavioral Health's Steve Carroll Steve Carrel said that childless adults make up a large percentage of those not funded by the current Medicaid plans.

Even though they are labeled as childless, they may have children that are claimed by the mothers.

"If those folks alone could get Medicaid coverage they would be eligible to get their addiction...

Local healthcare officials are pleased with the Ohio Governor John Kasich's decision to expand Medicaid.

Genesis Healthcare supported the move to expand the service which will help 13,000 people in their six county area, who wouldn't have coverage otherwise.

Genesis CEO Matt Perry said that by providing Medicaid it will allow these people to have a primary care physician.

"It gives the ability to do preventive services if you haven't been to the doctor in 10 years...
