The June numbers for the United Way's 211 Call Center are in, showing an increase in the need for food.

The United Way received a total of 917 calls last month, and more than half of those were for food assistance. The United Way partners with Christ's Table, as well as, other hot meal programs in the area.

Zanesville city employees took a lunch break for a cause Wednesday afternoon.

For the first time, at the James Singer Activity Center, city workers had a chili cook-off to benefit the United Way. The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties and the South End Walmart are teaming up this weekend.

The first ever "Fill The Bus" event will be taking place at the Walmart location. It will run Saturday and Sunday from 2PM to 4PM and will benefit middle school students. Since 2006, the United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties has been providing free tax preparation services for residents. Executive director Meg Deedrick, said the free service was started to increase income for families and households in the three county region the United Way serves.
