The countdown to the New Year is officially on. However, while you're sipping on that celebratory champagne it's important to remember to be safe.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics show that, in comparison to other holidays, forty two percent more traffic deaths that occur over the New Years holiday are do to drunk driving. Sergeant Melanie Appleman of The State Highway Patrol says in Ohio DUI arrests are higher during the holiday season.

The State Highway Patrol responded to a single car accident on I-70 East Bound, mile marker 152,  at 5:28 p.m. Tuesday, November 18th.

Seven teenagers walked away with minor injuries after two cars flipped over on Dresden Road near Powelson in separate incidents Tuesday afternoon.

Highway Patrol Sergeant Melanie Appleman says a gray Acura with five young adults, was southbound on Dresden road around 2:40, when driver, 19-year-old Bradley King, lost control and overturned on the left side of the road. A man is in critical condition, after being struck by a pick-up truck, around 8 Wednesday evening.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Melanie Appleman, a 1995 red Chevy was traveling northwest on Pinkerton Lane, when it struck a pedestrian walking in the same direction. The driver of the truck, has initially reported to police, that the pedestrian was in roadway in dark clothing.
