A local school is receiving a donation that will ultimately help future firefighters in our area.

Rockies Express Pipeline donated a connex to Mid-East Career Center Wednesday morning. It will be used as a training simulator for students in the fire program.

Local students had the chance to show off their academic skills Thursday night.

The Business Professionals of America Region 5 competition was held at Mid-East Career and Technology Center in Zanesville. More than 130 students from eight area schools competed in a variety of categories including broadcast news, public speaking, and computer animation.

Some culinary students are celebrating the holidays and also learning some valuable lessons.

The restaurant operations class at Mid-East in Zanesville, taught by Randall Webber, offers students with special needs the opportunity to gain work experience, so they can one day find entry-level jobs in the field. This week they are hand-making and decorating ginger bread houses.

As graduation grows near, another group of hopeful students will venture into the real world.

To help with that journey, the Zanesville campus of the Mid-east Career and Technology Center held it's Second Annual Employability Expo to prepare it's students.

As students get ready for prom season, one group wants to make sure students stay safe as they celebrate.

"There was just an accident... Where at?... Chandlersville road... Where at on Chandlersville Road?... By the vocational school... How many cars are involved... Two... Anybody injured?... Yes, I think so," stated the frantic 911 call.

This is not how students want to spend prom. But it could be a deadly reality for students who choose to drink and drive....

Several former students are now inductees in a local hall of fame.

Mid-East Career and Technology Centers honored three graduates for their contributions to the area and the school.

"Mideast has been very instrumental in their personal and professional lives," said Shannon Kenily, Student Placement Coordinator for the school. "We just like to recognize them because we're very proud of their successes."
