The South East Ohio mumps outbreak has climbed to 288 cases, meanwhile another viral outbreak is just starting.

Twenty-one confirmed or probable cases of measles have appeared primarily in Knox county, with one confirmed and two possible cases in Coshocton county. The cases in Knox county stem from an un-vaccinated group who traveled to the Philippines and became infected by the virus.

Health officials report the Central Ohio Mumps outbreak is persisting. As of Tuesday April 22nd, 263 people have fallen ill to the virus.

Doctor Whitacre, Medical Director of the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department is cautioning viewers in our area to be aware of what's happening in our surroundings. Health officials are monitoring a central Ohio mumps outbreak that has spread to outlying counties and local health experts are urging people to get their MMR vaccinations.

Nearly 90  cases of mumps have been reported in Ohio, areas affected include Franklin, Licking, Fairfield, Hamilton and Union counties. The Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department says in order for vaccines to be effective mass amounts of people must receive them.

Nearly 80 confirmed cases of mumps have been reported in central Ohio and the CDC is urging people to get vaccinated. One local mother is telling parents to do their research before vaccinating their children.

Shannon Coconis is a mother of three children and also the president of the National Autism Association of Southeast Ohio. She says one of her children was diagnosed with autism and that some members of the autism community believe that vaccinations are just one of the triggers...

The mumps outbreak in Franklin County has jumped from 16 cases to 69 confirmed cases.

Of the confirmed cases, 52 are linked to Ohio State University students between ages 18-48. The remaining cases are confined to residents in Frankin county between the ages of 4 to 50. The mumps is spread the same way as the flu. Coughing and sharing saliva as well as any kind of respiratory secretions.

A confirmed mumps outbreak on the the Ohio State campus is causing growing concern to the surrounding areas.
